As per the call given by the Maharashtra Transporters Action Committee (M-TAC), many transporters on Thursday observed a strike here in the city. Heavy vehicles were spotted parked outside the city limits at four to five locations. However, the participation of tempos, school buses, taxis, and auto-rickshaws in the indefinite strike was negligible, at least in the city. Private taxi owners were seen plying normally while no disruption was visible in the movement of school buses. Auto-rickshaw drivers were also seen carrying passengers throughout the day. In the meanwhile, a group of about 400 transporters gathered in the premises of Nagpur Regional Transport Office (RTO) on Amravati Road and raised slogans highlighting their demands.

Later on, the agitators also gave a memorandum to the RTO authorities. Kuku Marwah, President of the Nagpur Truckers Unity, said the bandh call received good response from the transporters. “We are successfully highlighting the demands of the transporters and other stakeholders including the common citizens. All the commercial vehicle owners and even others are suffering because of the e-challans and other actions of the authorities. These actions are nothing but the tools of harassment of the transporters,” he said. The key demands of the agitators are immediate withdrawal of the new e-challan rules issued by the Central government in January 2026; cancellation of all pending e-challans older than 90 days; the traffic police must focus on regulation and discipline, not on revenue collection. “The vehicle owners and drivers are frequently facing various administrative and punitive matters such as e-challans, vehicle seizure, suspension, tax-related disputes, penalties, etc that are affecting the business,” the agitators said.

Transporters to end agitation from today

Kuku Marwah, President of Nagpur Truckers Unity, on Thursday told The Hitavada that a high level committee on transporters held in in Mumbai on Thursday night decided to end the indefinite strike following meeting with Government. “We are all committed to follow the outcome of the meeting. But if the Government fails to take immediate and positive action, we will have no alternative but to proceed with the strike,” he said.
