NAGPUR’S duo of Samiksha Singh and Yugal Khote registered identical 5:0 wins over their respective opponents to move into semi-finals thereby confirming a medal each for Maharashtra in the Under-17 National Boxing Championships for Boys and Girls underway on MLA Hostel premises on Thursday. Left-handed Samiksha was just too good for Sonia from Jammu & Kashmir winning with a unanimous 5-0 decision in their feather weight (57k) bout. Samiksha was very strong from the beginning and from the second round her right punches were giving points and countings.
 
Yugal, who is from Nagpur but shifted his base to Akola’s Krida Prabodhini, also won 5-0 over Uttar Pradesh’s Aditya in the light welter weight (63kg) group. Other results that came in favour of Maharashtra boxers are as under: Sanskar defeated Assam’s Deepjyoti 4-1 in boys pin weight (44-46kg) category to book a last-four spot. Kaustubh blanked Assam’s Lakhyajit 5:0 in flyweight (50kg) while in light bantam (52kg) category, Gopal defeated Manipur’s Lanchenba Singh 5:0. In featherweight (57kg), Parth defeated Gurmel from Haryana 5-0. In girls, playing in flyweight (50kg), Ovi defeated Afsa of Punjab 5:0 while Mamta beat Parinth of Karnataka via RSC.
