With an added women’s team and more matches than first edition, the second edition of Vidarbha Premier League will take off from June 1 to 14.
Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) unveiled official logo, league’s mascot ‘Waghoba’ and announced the date of the tournament, setting the stage for an exciting new chapter in Vidarbha’s cricketing journey.
The Pagariya Group, which owns a men’s team (Pagariya Strikers), acquired the additional women’s team. The women’s tournament will now have six league and two knock-out matches, including a Qualifier and the Final.
The men’s tournament too will see a significant rise in the number of matches.
Each team will play each other once in the league stage and two matches each in the Super League before heading into the Play-offs.
The Play-offs will include an Eliminator, Qualifier 1, Qualifier 2 and the Final.
The women’s matches will be played at VCA Civil Lines Stadium, while the men’s matches will be played at VCA’s Jamtha Stadium, it was announced.
“The VPL 2026 will be telecast live on Sony (TEN 5) and streamed on a leading OTT platforms, with matches enriched by a decorated commentary panel featuring a galaxy of former Indian cricket stars,” announced VPL Governing Council Chairman Prashant Vaidya.
VCA Secretary Sanjay Badkas said, “The VPL is a festival of cricket - filled with energy, entertainment and unforgettable moments.”
He urged the players to play with courage, integrity and for joy. Speaking on the occasion, Vaidya, said, “The launch of VPL Season 2 reiterates our commitment to elevate cricket in the region and provide a platform to nurture talent. This is just the beginning of something truly special.”
The launch of league was attended by franchise owners including Ramesh Jaiswal (Neco Master Blasters), Sanjay Agrawal (India Warriors, former Nagpur Titans), Ulhas Pagariya (Pagariya Strikers), Inu Majumdar (Orange Tigers), Nagpur Heroes (Siddesh Sharma) and Rohit Agrawal (Bharat Rangers).
