In a major boost to the cheetah restoration project, female cheetah ‘KGP-12’ has given birth to four cubs at the Kuno National Park. With these new arrivals, the total number of cheetahs in Madhya Pradesh has increased to 57. Significantly, 37 of these 57 cheetahs have born on Indian soil. Following the birth, park management and wildlife experts have begun close monitoring of the new-borns.

The mother, ‘KGP-12’, is the daughter of the famous India-born female cheetah ‘Gamini.’ According to wildlife experts, both the mother and all four cubs are in good health. This successful breeding is being viewed as clear evidence that the ecosystem at Kuno is now fully conducive to the growth and conservation of the species.

Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav praised the park management and the team of veterinarians for this achievement. He stated that under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Madhya Pradesh has emerged as a global hub for cheetah restoration. The Chief Minister added that the growing cheetah population is not only strengthening wildlife conservation but also significantly enhancing eco-tourism and local employment opportunities in the State.
