AFTER six days of jabs, cross and misses, Haryana boys and girls ruled the roost to emerge overall champions of the Under-17 National Boxing Championships which concluded at MLA Hostel on Saturday. Haryana claimed top spots in both boys and girls sections with 55 and 51 points, respectively. Hosts Maharashtra girls did not disappoint and claimed the second position with 42 points. They were followed by SSCB. In the boys section, Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) stood second with 40 points. After a fierce contest between Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh boys, the later claimed the third position with 38 points pushing Maharashtra to fourth. Maharashtra’s Ovi Adwat was named the Best Boxer (Girls) for her outstanding performance.
 
Nella Narendra of SSCB was given the title of Best Boxer in boys section. Earlier, Maharashtra showcased their dominance to win gold in girls fly weight and both boys and girls categories of light bantam weight. Sambhajinagar’s Ovi Adwat defeated SSCB’s Naitik 4-1 split decision to win the gold medal in the fly weight 50kg category. Gopal Ganeshe of Akola defeated Uttarakhand’s Aman 5-0 via unanimous decision with his aggressive style in the 52 kg light bantam weight class. Mamta Raut of Sambhajinagar handed a one-sided defeat to Haryana boxer Yanshika 5-0 in the light bantam weight category. Nagpur boxer Samiksha Singh put up a tough fight and showcased quick footwork but had to settle for silver medal (4-1) against Navya of SSCB in their 57 kg feather weight bout. Chairman of commission RJ Dawali, Lokendra Pennolli, Dr B Premchand, Krushna Das, Naim Qureshi, Nilesh Bavishkar, Farhad Engineer were also present during the event. Rahul Shewade, President Maharashtra Boxing Association (MBA); Ranjit Sawarkar, Vice-President MBA; Manoj Pingale; Gopal Devang; Secretary Rakesh Tiwari; Treasurer Milan Vaidya; Executive Members Dhananjay Bansod and Arun Bute congratulated the winners.
