Chhattisgarh is set to witness a sharp rise in temperature over the coming days, with the Meteorological Centre, Raipur warning of heatwave conditions from mid-April. According to the latest weather report, dry weather conditions are currently prevailing across State, with no rainfall recorded. The maximum temperature in Raipur has already reached 41.0°C on Sunday, which is above normal, while the minimum temperature stood at 23.1°C. The lowest minimum temperature in the State was recorded at 16.5°C in Ambikapur. Other major cities like Bilaspur, Jagdalpur and Durg also reported temperatures close to 40°C, indicating a steady rise in heat levels across the region. Weather experts have predicted that temperatures may increase by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next few days. From April 14 onwards, temperatures are expected to remain above normal, with several areas likely to cross 42°C.

The situation may worsen further as heatwave conditions are expected to develop in isolated pockets from April 15. Clear skies, dry winds and low humidity are likely to intensify the heat and discomfort for residents. The district administration has appealed to citizens to take precautions during extreme heat, avoid unnecessary exposure to sunlight, drink sufficient water and immediately contact the nearest health centre if symptoms of heat-related illness appear. The Health Department has also issued detailed advisories for public safety. Citizens have been advised to drink plenty of water even if they do not feel thirsty, and to consume ORS, buttermilk, lemon water and traditional drinks like rice water. Wearing light-coloured, loose cotton clothes and covering the head with cloth, cap or umbrella while going outside is strongly recommended. People are advised to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours and keep their homes cool by using curtains, ventilation and fans. Authorities have warned people to avoid stepping out between 12 noon and 3 pm, avoid alcohol, tea, coffee and oily food, and not consume stale or uncovered food. Immediate medical attention is advised in case of high fever, dizziness, vomiting, confusion or breathing problems.
