READERS RESPONSE Character-building a collective responsibility

The special article by Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal about today’s youth and current status of social fabric is truly an eye-opener. Unfortunately, technology at fingure tips with excessive screen time seems to be a real culprit. Their is a flood of information and painfully it has been treated as knowledge. New buzzword, “Financial success is the only success,” is damaging the mindset of young ones badly as no one questions means of achieving financial strength. Parents are busy in their own world in the name of lifestyle and feels providing school, colleges and coaching fees is the only way of full feeling responsibility. Most of the parents and society in general are in the rat race of comparison of their children's with others.

So-called lintellects and highly qualified are not giving quality time, space to their children’s which is creating a big vacuum of support badly needed in such a turbulent times. Score in the examinations is becoming only measure of competence and focus on character-building is becoming secondary. Schools have to redefine teaching methods projecting their is no alternative to hard work, honestly, patience and perseverance. Wholehearted support from parents would immensely help to keep youths away from menace of drug , alcohol and impulsive behaviour pattern. If we as a society is not taking these alarming changes seriously damages would be irreversible. As a society, we all are facing pestilent times. Parents, teachers and society as a whole should work as a team to help youths; future of our country to lead happy, healthy and contributing life for humanity.
