JP HOSPITAL CRUSHING UNDER MASSIVE PATIENT LOAD, Sonography services faced a week-long suspension recently due to the radiologist’s absence
Staff Reporter :
Jai Prakash (JP) Hospital is currently navigating a challenging
period as the facility struggles to
manage an immense load of
patients. As the primary district
medical center, the hospital
serves as a critical lifeline for
thousands of people arriving daily from both the city and surrounding rural areas, putting the
existing infrastructure and available medical staff under significant pressure. The high volume
of seekers for medical aid, combined with a limited number of
specialist doctors, has begun to
affect the overall smooth functioning of various departments. In many key sections, the
workload is distributed such that
few specialists are tasked with
managing busy OPDs, often
attending to many patients in a
single day
ALONG with the OPD, doctors
also have the responsibility of
monitoring patients admitted to
the wards, which is constantly
increasing the workload. Due to
excessive workload and mental
stress, situations of disputes are
arising daily within the hospital
premises between doctors, nursing staff, and patients’ relatives.
The same situation persists in the
emergency ward, where difficulties are being faced in operating emergency services due to
limited staff.
Services halted due
to lack of radiologist
The impact of the hospital’s
mismanagement was clearly visible recently when sonography
services came to a complete
standstill because the only
radiologist’s bond was completed and he went on leave.
Consequently, pregnant
women and underprivileged
patients had to undergo tests
at private centers at expensive
rates, placing a significant
financial burden on them.
According to the ground
report, citizens visiting the hospital allege that the hospital
management has not deployed
adequate security personnel or
support staff to control the
crowd. From the registration
counter to the OPD rooms, frequent disputes and clashes
occur among patients while
queuing, but no responsible person remains present on the spot
to manage the situation. Failing
to receive timely medical consultation even after waiting for
hours has now become a part
of the system here. This current
state of Jai Prakash District
Hospital remains a serious challenge to the health of thousands
of patients who come here for
treatment.
