Beat Marshals of Bajaj Nagar Police saved a mother and her daughter who were on the brink of suicide at Ambazari Lake on Friday morning.
The incident occurred around 11 am when the 40-year-old woman and her 22-year-old daughter, residents of Rameshwari area, reached the lake. Burdened by financial stress and family issues, the two were in deep distress and were reportedly contemplating ending their lives. Police were alerted after a call to the ‘112’ emergency helpline reported two women crying near the lake. Acting immediately, Beat Marshal constables Narendra Kewate and Pankaj Rathod rushed to the spot.
When they arrived, they found the duo standing close to the water’s edge. Instead of panicking or using force, the constables approached them calmly and struck up a conversation. “We spoke to them patiently and tried to understand what they were going through. We told them they are not alone and that things can get better,” said Constable Kewate. The officers spent time listening and gently counselling them. As the conversation continued, the women began to open up about their struggles.
With reassurance and support, the constables were able to ease their distress and persuade them to step back from the edge. “We reminded them that tough times don’t last forever and encouraged them to stay strong,” Rathod said. Once the situation was under control, the police contacted their relatives, who soon arrived at the scene. The mother and daughter were safely handed over to their family. Senior Police Inspector C H Chauhan of Bajaj Nagar Police Station appreciated the efforts of the constables.
