The residents of Chandrakiran Nagar, Chakrapani Nagar, Vitthal Nagar, Bhole Nagar, and Vaishnomata Nagar on Pipla Road in South Nagpur have been suffering the pains of non-stop infrastructure development being carried for more than three years now.
First, it was the storm water drainage system work then the cement road construction work and now the civic body is laying sewage pipeline on the same road stretch by demolishing one side of the concrete road. The non-stop work in the locality is causing discomfort for residents and regular motorists on daily basis.
“For more than three years, our locality is facing the brunt of road or infrastructure works.
As a consequence, many inner roads had to be closed abruptly. First it was the cement road construction work and now demolishing the same cement road for construction for lying sewage pipeline. Since then cement roads, sewage line and storm water line are being constructed in every nook and corner, resulting in several diversions on narrow roads of adjacent localities to Pipla Road,” said Ramesh Chaudhari, a resident to The Hitavada.
Santosh Patil, another resident informed, “We want infrastructure development in South Nagpur. But the administration and contractors should implement it with proper plan and without troubling residents and commuters. But, here it is happening exactly opposite from last three years. This type of unplanned work is a waste of public money. Administration should plan the development work but here every agency doing its work without any co-ordination.”
There is a weekly market on Pipla Road which causes severe traffic problem on every Tuesdays. Now this demolition work will add on the trouble for people who reside nearby the road and also for commuters.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) awarded the contract for laying sewage line to P Das Infra Pvt Ltd. The contractor has deployed heavy machinery to demolish the one side of the cement road for lying the pipeline. Due to lack of street lights on Pipla road many minor accidents took place due to the darkness and the ongoing construction work.
“Under AMRUT 2 mission, we have received fund for construction of sewage line in South Nagpur to stop the release of sewage directly in Pohra river.
The contractor is lying 400 diameter pipeline throughout the Pipla Road stretch and close to the Pohra River the contractor is lying 700 diameter sewage line,” informed Rajesh Dupare, Executive Engineer, Environment Department, NMC. Dupare further informed that the project will be completed till May end and the contractor is also doing the restoration work on the road.
