In view of the rising summer temperatures, the Nagpur City Traffic Police has announced changes in traffic signal operations across the city. With temperatures crossing 40°C, officials said there is a higher risk of heat-related problems for commuters waiting at signals. Traffic signals have already been installed and are working at major intersections in Nagpur, and are being adjusted based on traffic flow at each junction. However, since traffic is very low at certain intersections during the afternoon hours, the department has decided to introduce a special system at 31 junctions. According to the press note, signals at these selected intersections will operate on “Red Blinker” mode between 2 PM and 4 PM daily. This means motorists can follow the rule of “Stop, Look, and Proceed” instead of waiting for full signal cycles. The move is expected to save time and fuel, and also reduce exposure to extreme heat. During this period, a speed limit of 20 kmph has been made compulsory at these junctions. Traffic police have appealed to citizens to follow all rules strictly and cooperate for their own safety and smooth traffic movement.
