8-year-old girl killed; father, two siblings hurt as LPG tanker ravages roadside shanties
Staff Reporter :
In A tragic road accident an 8-year-old girl was killed and left her father and two siblings critically injured in Bhanpur area during early hours of Sunday. An LPG tanker steered off the pavement crushing a row of shanties near Bapu Mal Dev roundabout. Chhola Mandir Police have impounded heavy vehicle and initiated a formal investigation.
The tragedy unfolded around 2 am as the tanker, reportedly travelling at high speed from Karond area, lost traction. The massive vehicle veered sharply off the main road, plowing through three makeshift dwellings where families were asleep. In the fatal mishap, Khushi was trapped beneath the tanker’s massive tyres. Screams of terror drew local residents to the scene, who worked frantically to pull survivors from the shattered remains of their homes. Khushi’s parents, Monu and Manisha, along with her brothers Ayush (5) and Piyush (7), were eventually pulled from the debris.
Manisha, the victim’s mother, shared a harrowing account of her daughter’s final moments. “She was pinned under the wheel for almost an hour,” she recounted through tears. “We watched her move at first, but she slowly stopped responding as we lost her right in front of our eyes.”
While Ayush suffered a broken leg, the father and the other son sustained multiple blunt-force injuries.
Victim’s father, Monu, pointed to a fatal lapse in emergency services, alleging that despite immediate calls, an ambulance never arrived. It was police officers on the scene who eventually extricated the young girl and rushed her to the hospital in a patrol car, where medical staff declared her dead on arrival.
Outrage over
safety failures
The incident has caused anger among local community. Residents argued that casualty count was only kept low because roughly half of the 25 resident families were away attending a function. Neighbours have long warned that lack of streetlights, safety barricades and proper footpaths has turned this specific stretch of road into a “death trap” for the poor families living on its margins.
Police investigation underway
Station House Officer (SHO) Saraswati Tiwari confirmed that the tanker, which was fully loaded
with gas at the time of the crash, has been secured. Fortunately, no LPG leakage was detected despite the force of the impact. “The driver abandoned the vehicle and escaped immediately after the collision. We have deployed multiple teams to track him down,” SHO Tiwari stated. A criminal case has been registered as the search for the absconding driver continues.
