The Association warns of ‘Ghantanad’ protest over illegal liquor trade
The Nagpur District Restaurant Permit Room Association has demanded strict action against assailants involved in a violent attack at a bar in Manewada Chowk and warned of protests if illegal liquor activities are not curbed within a week.
Addressing a press conference, Rajeev Jaiswal, Association President, stated that licensed permit rooms are increasingly facing attacks, while unauthorised hotels and roadside establishments continue illegal liquor sales without licences.
He urged the administration to immediately shut down
such activities.
The demand follows a serious incident on the night of April 16 at S K Bar on Ring Road, where 15-18 miscreants allegedly stormed the premises after closing hours.
When staff refused to serve alcohol, the group reportedly assaulted the manager, leaving him injured with six stitches.
The accused fled as the police arrived at the scene. Later seven miscreants were apprehended.
Jaiswal questioned the administration’s inaction despite repeated incidents over the past two years. He highlighted that permit room operators pay significant taxes, including VAT, GST and TCS, yet receive inadequate protection.
A memorandum has been submitted to the Collector and Joint Commissioner, warning of a “Ghantanad” agitation if strict action is not taken within seven days. Office bearers Vilas Karangle, Navin Bawankar
and Anand Dandekar were also present.
