A farmer was relieved of Rs 2.5 lakh by unidentified person through a malicious mobile application in Silua village under the jurisdiction of Gosalpur police station. According to Gosalpur police, complainant Sandeep Kumar Sahu (38), a resident of village Silua lodged a complaint that he is engaged in agriculture and educated up to Class 12. Around two months ago, he received an APK file via WhatsApp on his mobile phone, which appeared to be a wedding invitation card. When he opened the file, his phone became unresponsive.

He immediately deleted the file and got the device repaired. However, starting from March 16, 2026, small amounts, including Rs 218, began getting deducted from his account, which initially went unnoticed. On March 23, 2026, he received a message that Rs 46,116 had been debited from his account at the State Bank of India, Gosalpur branch. Upon contacting the bank and checking his account statement, it was found that multiple unauthorized transactions had taken place on March 16, 17 and 20. On March 23, within about one hour, 10 transactions were made, and a total of Rs 2,58,191 was fraudulently withdrawn from his account through online means. Acting on the complaint and preliminary inquiry, Gosalpur police have registered a case under Section 318 of BNS against unknown persons and further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the accused.
