In a hit-and-run incident, a 72-year-old yoga teacher lost her life after being run over by a speeding car near Barlinge Square, near Children’s Traffic Park under the Sitabuldi Police Station limits. The accident took place around 6.30 am on Saturday, when the victim had stepped out for her regular morning routine. The deceased has been identified as Mangala Ramdaspant Kevate, a resident of Hansadhwani Apartments in Dharampeth.
 
According to police, she used to conduct yoga classes every morning at Gajanan Maharaj Mandir, Zenda Chowk. On Saturday morning, while she was walking along the road, a Toyota Innova Crysta SUV (CG-07/DC-8616) reportedly approached from behind at high speed and hit her. “The impact was severe and the victim sustained critical injuries. She died on the spot before any medical help could reach,” a police official from Sitabuldi Police Station said. After the accident, the car driver did not stop and fled the scene with the vehicle. Local residents rushed to the spot on hearing the noise of the collision and found the elderly woman lying in a pool of blood.
 
Police reached the scene immediately on getting the information. The body was later sent to Mayo Hospital for post-mortem. Police said, the same car after crushing Kevate, also hit a two-wheeler near Bole petrol pump and injured two persons. “The injured have been admitted to a private hospital and are undergoing treatment. Their condition is stable,” the official added. The victim’s son, Lochan Kevate (47), came to know about the incident in a heartbreaking manner. While passing through the area, he noticed a crowd and stopped to check, only to find that the victim was his mother. Based on his complaint, a case has been registered against the unknown driver. “We have identified the vehicle and teams are working to trace the accused. Strict action will be taken,” the police official said.
