Vedanta Power has completed compensation payments to families of deceased workers and those injured in the recent boiler-related accident at its Unit-1 power plant in Singhitara i, in Chhattisgarh. The company said it remains committed to supporting all affected employees and their families. The incident occurred a week ago after a malfunction in the boiler system led to the leakage of high-pressure hot water and steam. Operations and maintenance at the unit were being handled by NGSL (NTPC GE Power Services Limited), a joint venture between NTPC and GE. Around 35 workers from contractor and subcontractor firms were present at the site at the time. In addition, Vedanta announced long-term support measures, including educational assistance for children of the deceased up to Class 12. Skill development opportunities will also be extended to family members through company-run training centres to improve their employability. Vedanta Power CEO Rajinder Singh Ahuja while expressing condolences over the incident, stating that the company stands firmly with the affected families. He said the focus remains on providing the best medical treatment to the injured and ensuring their recovery, while also securing the long-term welfare of impacted families. The company is cooperating with authorities to determine the cause of the incident. Immediately after the accident, emergency response protocols were activated.
 
In coordination with local authorities and emergency services, injured workers were rushed to hospitals in Raigarh, Kharsia, and Raipur. A central disaster management team was formed at the plant to oversee rescue, relief, and coordination efforts. The company said it ensured uninterrupted wages for injured workers and arranged accommodation, food, and counselling support for their families. A dedicated “Vedanta Samvedna Kendra” has also been set up to provide continuous assistance, share updates, and address daily needs of affected families. Injured workers and their families acknowledged the support provided. They said medical expenses are being fully covered and company representatives are present at hospitals to assist them.
