Many people have the habit of thinking too much, either about what has happened or about what lies in the future. They keep regretting the lost opportunities or make it a routine to keep planning the future. Meanwhile, tomorrow has its own plans. In the midst of the perpetual battle between yesterday and tomorrow, we lose out on the most precious thing, our present.
The past is a very powerful teacher. The future is a blank sheet on which our dreams, plans and personal growth will be inscribed. However, what really matters is that life is only in the moment that there is.
Sadly, as the burdens of day to day life grow heavier,
we stop living in the present moment and enjoying it.
We are so busy rushing through the morning, thus checking our phones even before brushing our teeth, scrolling endlessly through the lives of others and getting anxious about the next thing.
We use the number of tasks done and accomplishments made to measure the worth of our days rather than moments and feelings. Nonetheless, when we stop for a moment and get the Sun on our skin, hear the laughter of a friend or have a quiet evening to overselves, we realise that we are living the moment.
Being in the here and now means that you have freed yourself from the past and do not have worries about the future, that you have learnt to find happiness in the little things. The past is gone, the future is uncertain but the present is here and it is the one that we should live fully and deeply.
