“Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is the reason Hindus are in the majority today, and I deeply respect him,” said Pandit Dhirendra Krishna Shastri, also known as Baba Bageshwar Dham, while addressing a press conference in response to controversies over his recent statements. Referring to remarks perceived as disrespectful towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Shastri clarified that, his comments were misunderstood and taken out of context. He expressed regret over the incident and apologised to those whose sentiments were hurt. He emphasised that his intention was only to underline Shivaji Maharaj’s deep respect for his gurus and saints, which he said remains an important aspect of the ruler’s legacy.

Addressing another controversy, Shastri clarified his earlier statement suggesting that Hindus should have four children and dedicate one to the ‘Sangh’. He explained that, by ‘Sangh’, he did not mean any particular organisation, but rather service to the nation. He encouraged families to guide their children towards contributing meaningfully to society as doctors, soldiers, administrators or in other responsible roles.

He further linked this appeal to what he described as the need for maintaining demographic balance in the country. Shastri also outlined his current focus on spreading awareness against what he termed ‘love jihad’ and efforts to bring back allegedly misled girls to their families. He pointed out that, Madhya Pradesh has enacted strict laws on the issue and urged Maharashtra to consider similar measures. He additionally advised young women to exercise caution, while using social media and to avoid falling victim to ‘honey traps’, stressing the importance of awareness and vigilance in the digital age.
