Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam
A national key issue of women’s reservation in Parliament and state assemblies echoed in Madhya Pradesh Assembly on Monday and witnessed uproar by main Opposition Congress party legislators over private bill and Government resolution presentation in the House. One-day session of State Assembly was convened for a resolution on the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam. Addressing the House, Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav said that Madhya Pradesh was the first state in the country to organise a dedicated session on the issue.
Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar said that the Congress wanted an immediate discussion and enforcement of the Women’s Reservation Act passed by the Parliament in the year 2023 during the CM’s proposal to table the resolution of the said bill. Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar intervened to follow the due schedule.
Congress members resisted and demanded for their private bill. This has set stand off between the opposition and
ruling party members in the House. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya cited to go with Government’s proposal and Speaker allowed the same. Followed by Congress party members walking out from the House.
Amidst a discussion in the House on the subject of ‘Nari Shakti Vandan’ (Women’s Empowerment), an uproar ensued, prompting Congress legislators to stage a walkout.
Meanwhile, Congress MLA Abhijit Shah was heading toward the Legislative Assembly riding a tractor-trolley; however, the police set up barricades in front of the Secretariat and stopped him. Shah asserted that he had obtained a valid pass for the tractor, whereas police officials maintained that bringing a tractor onto the premises was not permitted. This dispute escalated into a heated argument between the police and the MLA, involving physical shoving and scuffling. Subsequently, the MLA entered the House carrying a bundle of wheat.
During the discussion in the House, Congress MLA Rajendra Singh remarked that the ruling party introduced the Women’s Reservation Bill solely because elections were underway in Bengal, a state where they are currently unable to defeat Mamata Banerjee.
Minister Krishna Gaur stated that the failure of the Bill in Parliament has dealt a severe blow to the women of the country. Women had harboured hopes that their political aspirations would be given wings, but the Congress party and the
opposition shattered those expectations. She further asserted that a fundamental principle of jurisprudence holds true: where there is a right, there is a remedy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi endeavoured to grant precisely this right, yet the Congress party has, in doing so, insulted millions of women.
