Madhya Pradesh’s traditional handicraft art ‘Bagh Print’ is now ready to showcase its brilliance on the global stage. This specific art form from the state will be displayed at the prestigious ‘Foire de Paris’ fair in Paris, the capital of France. This international fair will be held at the Porte de Versailles exhibition center in Paris from April 30, 2026, to May 11, 2026.
National Awardee artisan Mohammed Bilal Khatri will represent the state’s Bagh Print art at this international event. The Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) under the Union Ministry of Textiles selected five best artisans from across the country, and Bilal Khatri is among them. He will participate as a Master Craftsman and conduct a live demonstration of his art there.
At the fair, international visitors will witness how beautiful patterns are crafted on fabrics using traditional natural dyes, carved wooden blocks, and handmade techniques. Designs prepared specially for this exhibition blend Indian tradition with modern global aesthetics to cater to the preferences of European markets.
Bagh Print is a 400-year-old art form from the Bagh region of the Dhar district in Madhya Pradesh. It is believed that this tradition was established here by the Khatri community, who migrated from the Larkana region of Sindh.
This art is protected under the Geographical Indication (GI) tag. Natural ingredients like Dhawdi flowers, alum, and iron corrosion are used to prepare cotton and silk fabrics. Geometric and floral motifs in red and black colors are its main identity.
