Nagpur Municipal Commissioner Dr Vipin Itankar conducted an extensive field inspection across various civic infrastructure projects on Saturday, focusing on monsoon preparedness and urban beautification. The visit covered river de-silting sites, public gardens, and proposed pedestrian-friendly zones. Dr Itankar inspected the ongoing river and drain cleaning work between St Xavier’s School and Ashok Chowk. He issued strict directives to utilise Poclain and JCB machines to their full capacity and deploy additional machinery if necessary to speed up the process. Furthermore, he reviewed the removal of water hyacinth at Ambazari Lake to ensure the water body’s health. During a visit to Sant Dnyaneshwar Udyan in Dattatraya Nagar, Sakkardara, the Commissioner reviewed the jogging track, security wall and children’s play areas. He ordered the immediate completion of repair works and directed officials to develop a ‘Multipurpose Sports Ground’ featuring: A skating track for children, along with facilities for badminton and basketball.
 
The Commissioner also surveyed the proposed ‘Walkable Street’ in front of VNIT and the stretch between Children’s Park and Laxmi Bhavan Chowk. He instructed that the final plans be finalised only after detailed consultations with local representatives, PMCs, and architects. The inspection was attended by senior officials including Chief Engineer Manoj Talewar, Superintendent Engineer Dr Shweta Banerjee, and several zonal assistant commissioners.
 
‘Finalise preparations for bhoomipujan of ‘Swapnapurti’ housing project’

 Under the second phase of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Commissioner Dr Vipin Itankar conducted an inspection of the ‘Swapnapurti’ housing project in the Nari area on Saturday. The project aims to provide affordable housing for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) of society. Developed under the guidance of Mayor Neeta Thakre, the project features a total of 518 residential units. During the visit, Dr Itankar instructed officials to finalise preparations for the project’s Bhoomipujan. Beyond the housing units, the Commissioner inspected the proposed DP Road connecting SRA Colony Vitabhatti, Uppalwadi to Nari, directing the immediate completion of the Transferable Development Rights (TDR) process. He also issued several directives to improve living standards in the SRA Colony: Amenities: Expedite shop allotments and develop a park featuring a green gym, children’s playground, and walking track. Sanitation: Maintain regular cleanliness and establish a Unified Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) for the colony. Greenery: Clear the site for the upcoming Kamgar Colony and initiate large-scale tree plantation in designated areas. Dignitaries present included Corporator Dinesh Yadav, Chief Engineer Manoj Talewar, Deputy Commissioner Ganesh Rathod, Sunil Uike and other senior NMC officials.
