The long-awaited Indora– Dighori flyover is approaching completion, marking a significant milestone in the city’s efforts to ease traffic congestion along one of its busiest east–west corridors. The nearly 8 km elevated corridor, being developed in two phases, is expected to substantially reduce travel time between North and East Nagpur once fully operational. According to officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the first operational stretch, a 2.2 km segment between Bhande Plot Square and Telephone Nagar Square, is scheduled to be opened for traffic later this month as part of load testing procedures. This trial phase will allow authorities to assess structural performance under real traffic conditions before being fully commissioned.

The project has been divided into two key segments: one extending from Kamal Square to Reshimbag Square, and the other from Bhande Plot Square to Telephone Nagar Square. While the shorter segment is nearing readiness, work on the longer stretch is progressing steadily and is expected to be completed by the end of May. Officials stated that only limited work remains pending, primarily the construction of landing ramps near Motha Tajbag. Once completed, this will ensure seamless connectivity and safe entry and exit points for commuters. In addition, aesthetic enhancements such as mural artwork on piers, street lighting installations, and final road markings are also being completed, giving the structure a visually distinctive character.

The Indora–Dighori flyover project has been under development for several years and has faced delays due to land acquisition challenges, utility shifting, and disruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially conceived to decongest key intersections such as Reshimbag, Bhande Plot, and Kamal Square, the project is expected to significantly reduce bottlenecks and improve traffic flow across densely populated areas. Once fully operational, the flyover is anticipated to provide uninterrupted connectivity, reduce fuel consumption caused by idling at junctions, and improve overall urban mobility. Civic authorities view the project as a crucial addition to Nagpur’s growing transport infrastructure network.
