To integrate cutting-edge technology with traditional discipline for Vidarbha’s youth, the National Cadet Corps (NCC), Maharashtra Directorate is going to establish NCC Drone Training Hub in Nagpur soon. The announcement was made by Major General Vivek Tyagi, Additional Director General (ADG), NCC, Maharashtra Directorate at a press conference held at Nagpur Group NCC Headquarters, Civil Lines, on Wednesday. Maj Gen Tyagi is on a three-day visit to Nagpur till May 1.
Tyagi informed to the media that the Directorate has already submitted a letter to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra for setting up Drone Hub in Nagpur and Pune cities to encourage youth from both districts under Vikasit Bharat Mission.
The ADG also mentioned that the Directorate is also planning to start a NCC Academy in Nagpur but it will take time to take shape.
The upcoming Drone Hub will provide training to NCC cadets from all over the country and the cadets across the three arms of NCC — Army, Air Force and Navy — will be trained.
At the press conference, Maj Gen Tyagi also informed about the roadmap aimed at integrating cutting-edge technology for Maharashtra including NCC-DGCA Remote Pilot Training Organisation (RPTO).
Maj Gen Tyagi emphasised that the Nagpur Group is poised to lead in modern technology, shifting focus toward high-tech skill development. By integrating drone operations and advanced simulators into the curriculum, the NCC aims to arm the cadets with industry-relevant skills that transcend traditional drill and ceremony. He said, “Cadets from across India will join the Nagpur training hub. Meanwhile, a similar hub also will be established in Pune where cadets from across Maharashtra will get a chance to enhance their drone skills.”
The NCC Academy is envisioned as a centralised training sanctuary for Vidarbha’s youth, providing state-of-the-art infrastructure for Air, Naval, and Army cadets.
He also said that, “Ongoing infrastructure work of academy at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar will complete in upcoming two years. Similar academies will be opened in Mumbai and Konkan,” Maj Gen Tyagi added.
“The goal is to develop disciplined, responsible citizens with a deep sense of national pride,” the ADG remarked. By interacting directly with cadets and staff, he aims to identify areas for enhancement and mentor the next generation of leaders.
Emphasising on the importance of C-Certificate he mentioned, “Being an ADG NCC, its very painful for me to see students drop out from NCC during their second year, while they are just one year away from acquiring their C-Certificate. I recommend maximum number of students should acquire the certificate, which can open a number of opportunites in future for the cadet.” The visit reaffirms the Directorate’s commitment to innovation, ensuring that Nagpur remains a cornerstone of excellence for the NCC in Maharashtra.
