In a major crackdown on cyber fraud, Cyber Cell and Crime Branch of Jabalpur Police have arrested an accused involved in a massive investment scam worth Rs 3.04 crore, where a doctor was duped on the pretext of high returns in the stock market. The action was taken under the direction of Superintendent of Police Sampat Upadhyay, who has instructed strict and swift action in cyber fraud and online cheating cases. Acting under the guidance of Additional SP (Crime) Jitendra Singh, a team led by Cyber Cell In-charge Inspector Anoop Namdev arrested accused Saurabh Vishwakarma alias Rahul (25), a resident of Khamaria. Earlier, another accused Sanskar Kesharwani had already been arrested in the same case. Further interrogation led to the identification and arrest of Saurabh Vishwakarma.
According to police, the accused lured a Jabalpur-based doctor by promising 5% daily returns on
investment, up to 500% returns on long-term investment.
The victim was convinced to invest money in fake share market schemes, resulting in a fraud of Rs 3.04 crore. Investigations revealed that the accused used to open current/corporate bank accounts in the names of others, share these accounts with cyber fraud networks via Telegram, earn hefty commissions in return. These accounts were then used by fraudsters to siphon off money from victims. Jabalpur Police have issued a public advisory urging citizens stay alert to avoid schemes promising guaranteed or unusually high returns, do not trust investment tips from unknown persons or Telegram/WhatsApp groups, invest only through SEBI-registered brokers. Do not install unknown APK files, download apps only from official stores like Google Play or App Store. Never share banking or personal details in exchange for offers or commissions.
