IN VIEW of the soaring and sudden changing temperate in
State, the Government of
Chhattisgarh has issued comprehensive guidelines.
These guidelines
provide essential instructions
regarding the symptoms of loo,
heatstroke, preventive measures,
initial treatment, and necessary
precautions.
The District Administration
has directed all health centres to
conduct training sessions and
raise public awareness regarding
heatstroke symptoms, prevention strategies, and initial treatment protocols in the event of
heatstroke. Instructions have also
been issued to prioritise the
examination and treatment of
patients affected by heatstroke
at all health centers.
Furthermore, specific guidelines
have been issued to all relevant
departments within the district.
According to the information
received, public awareness programs focusing on heatstroke
prevention and remedial measures will also be organised.
Talking about the symptoms
of Loo, CMHO said that a sensation of heaviness or pain in the
head; high fever accompanied
by a dry mouth; dizziness and
vomiting; body aches accompanied by weakness; absence of
sweating despite an elevated
body temperature; excessive
thirst and reduced urination; loss
of appetite; and loss of consciousness.
Talking about preventive
measures he said that the primary
cause of heatstroke is a depletion of water and minerals specifically salt in the body, resulting
from prolonged exposure to
intense sunlight and heat.
Therefore, to prevent heatstroke, the following points should
be kept in mind: Avoid stepping out of the house unless
absolutely necessary. Before venturing out into the sun,
ensure your head and ears are adequately covered with a
cloth.
Drink plenty of water and avoid staying in direct sunlight for extended periods. During the summer season, one
should wear soft, light-colored cotton clothing to facilitate
airflow and allow the fabric to absorb perspiration.
Additionally, in situations involving excessive sweating,
consume an Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS). Specific guidelines have also been issued for the elderly and for employees performing duties outdoors in the sun. According to
the advisory, arrangements must be made to ensure the
regular monitoring and care of elderly individuals who live
alone. If an elderly person exhibits symptoms such as an
unusual loss of appetite, dizziness, or difficulty breathing,
it is strongly advised to seek immediate medical assistance.
A comprehensive action plan has been outlined to ensure
the safety and well-being of every segment of society and
every operational system.
