Nearly one-third of city area would face crisis as Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has issued notice for taking a 36-hour shutdown on Pench-I, II, III and IV water treatment plants (WTP). The stoppage would start from 10 am on April 7 and continue till 10 pm on April 8. The shutdown is being taken for carrying out essential maintenance work at the drinking water supply treatment plants. Additionally, the technicians would also install a valve on the AMRUT 900 mm diameter feeder main near Sadar Fruit Market.

 

The stoppage of drinking water supply for such a long period would precipitate major crisis for the households as well as commercial establishments. Though the shutdown is for 36 hours, the resumption would take further extended period. This is so as the elevated service reservoir (ESRs) takes some time to get topped up and without that, the water supply in the command area cannot start. Further, not many establishments or even households can hold out for such a long period. So during the time of shutdown, the water market is going to have splendid business as it is basic daily need for one and all. And that too during the sweltering summer season, when the requirement is much more, the 36 hour disruption might have widespread repercussions. Due to this shutdown, water supply to the following Consumer Areas (CAs) will be affected: Laxmi Nagar Zone: Command areas of ESRs of Laxmi Nagar Old, Gayatri Nagar, Pratap Nagar, Khamla, Takli Sim, Jaitala, Trimurti Nagar Laxmi Nagar New.

 

Dharampeth Zone: ESRs of Ram Nagar, Ram Nagar GSR, Futala Line, Civil Lines DT, Rifle Line, Seminary Hills GSR, Seminary Hills ESR, Dabha, Tekdi Wadi, IBM DT, GH-Buldi, Dhantoli. Hanuman Nagar Zone: ESRs of Chinchbhavan, Omkar Nagar Existing, Omkar Nagar New, Hudkeshwar, Shri Nagar, Nalanda Nagar, Hudkeshwar & Narsala Tapping, AMRUT Double Decker ESRs. Dhantoli Zone: ESRs of Wanjari Nagar Old, Wanjari Nagar New, Reshimbagh, Hanuman Nagar. Nehru Nagar Zone: ESRs of Sakkardara 1 & 2, Sakkardara 3, AMRUT Bidipeth, AMRUT Balaji Nagar. Citizens in the affected areas are requested to store adequate water in advance and cooperate during the shutdown period, said a release issued here.
