Pipeline leak floods

BHILAI :

5 A MAJOR pipeline leakage during water supply testing caused severe waterlogging in the Supela market area under Ward 16 of Vaishali Nagar Zone-2, leaving residents and nearby shopkeepers facing daylong suffering before the problem was finally resolved by the Bhilai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Sunday. According to officials, the leakage occurred near Supela Ravan Bhatha, Sheetala Talab and the hardware line area, resulting in a large volume of water flowing into the drainage system. The sudden pressure led to blockage at a culvert near Laxmi Nagar on the Sheetala Talab road. The culvert, through which three major drinking water pipelines pass, got clogged due to plastic waste and debris, stopping the flow of water and causing accumulation on the road.

The waterlogging continued for hours, affecting normal life and business activities in the busy market area. Shopkeepers and residents reported major inconvenience as muddy water spread across the road, disrupting movement. The municipal team later reached the site and carried out restoration work. Workers cleared the blocked culvert using bamboo sticks and removed the accumulated waste to restore drainage flow. By Sunday noon, the situation was brought under control and normal conditions were restored. The team also cleaned the road and sprayed lime powder to prevent any possible health risks.
