PWD planning to initiate immediate repair work
The road connecting Sham Nagar to New Manish Nagar has become a nightmare for daily commuters. What should be a smooth and easy route, is now full of large patches and deep potholes, making travel slow, uncomfortable and unsafe. People who use this road every day say the condition is getting worse with time. Two-wheeler riders are the most affected, extending travel time as they have to carefully balance while trying to avoid sudden jerks and falls.
Uneven surface
A daily commuter Swati Biswas said, “This road is in very bad condition. We have to struggle just to cross this stretch everyday. It is unsafe especially for two-wheeler riders”. Many commuters also say that the uneven surface of the road makes it difficult to maintain balance. Sudden dips and broken patches come one after another, giving very less time to react. This increases the chance of road accidents on daily basis. A shopkeeper near the stretch shared that a few days ago, a couple fell from their bike because of the potholes and suffered minor injuries, but it could have been worse.
Deep potholes
At night, the problem becomes more dangerous due to poor visibility, many potholes are not clearly visible. Many patches and potholes get filled with water even with light showers. When vehicles pass through these potholes, dirty water splashes everywhere causing inconvenience to riders and pedestrians.
Vivek Telrande, Deputy Engineer, PWD, Dhantoli Zone 4, told The Hitavada that the issues will be addressed soon. “We will look into the matter and take immediate action. The work of filling the potholes and patches will be done and the road will be repaired properly,” he said.
A resident from Sham Nagar said, “Whenever a vehicle passes rapidly, water splashes on the clothes, making them dirty”. Locals says that the road is essential for daily travel, connecting residential areas and helping people reach work, school and markets. Despite this, it continues to be ignored, leaving commuters to deal with daily inconvenience and risk. People are now hoping that the issue will be resolved quickly before any serious incident takes place.
