First such setup in Maharashtra, said Garden Department officials, adding, the idea is to channelise energy of youth
A thrilling adventure is set to greet the Nagpurians, as early as a fortnight. Yes, the very mention of word might set goosebumps on one’s back, and by the time the set-up comes up, citizens are going to stop by in awe. Get ready citizens, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is shaping up first ever adventure net climbing sets at the four parks of city. And most importantly, this is the first ever concept to materialise in Maharashtra, said the officials of Garden Department of the civic body.
The four gardens where work on setting up adventure equipment is going to commence soon are Lata Mangeshkar in Lakadganj Zone,
Shivaji Nagar in Dharampeth Zone, Mahatma Phule in Dhantoli Zone and one at KT Nagar in Mangalwari Zone.
The work order has been awarded at a cost of Rs 75 lakh against an estimated cost of Rs 1 crore, and within a fortnight, these adventure parks would be ready for the citizens, said Ganesh Rathod, Deputy Commissioner, Garden Department, NMC, while talking to ‘The Hitavada’.
The Garden Department officials are confident that once these adventure climbing nets are in place, the youth are going to like the concept, as it’s designed keeping their requirements in mind. “We are also excited as to reaction from the people, as after a long time the adventure exercise, which is so far exclusive domain of military regime are being set up in a public place,” said Rathod further.
The outdoor climber set, as it is technically known, would have several climber options, set at different levels of difficulty that would provide endurance training to users.
Also, it would be equipped with slides, a favourite among children, alongside couple of hanging sets. Further, the set is also equipped with several tunnel games, hanging ropes, not to mention balance beams where the children would have to cross over through the challenging situations. In addition, it is also going to have plenty of swaying games, combining fun with adventure. All in all, it’s a complete set-up for each age group.
He said, the NMC’s idea is to tap the abundant energy among the youth, so the adventure exercise would provide them a chance to explore the same in their local gardens. As of now, the set-up of adventure net climbing set is being set up at four gardens. Based on user experience, feedback from citizens, NMC is open to establishing similar outdoor sets in other gardens.
The one thing that is being kept in mind while developing the gardens, including the net climbing set, is to keep the maintenance cost at the minimal and hassle-free, said the Garden officials overseeing the set-up. Such adventure is normally seen only in military training, and most of NCC cadets who are selected for peer camps are provided training in such thrilling sets. But given the vast population and majority of them being youth, the NMC officials thought of exploring the adventure park set-up to provide a thrilling and at the same time, fulfilling outing during visits to children and citizens.
Nagpur is well-known for its big and beautiful gardens and in the past, it has explored various themes. Now the adventure set would ensure the youth can have rigorous workout sessions.
To a query, Rathod said, the climbing net as such does not need very specialised practice, and anyone with robust health can use the various hurdles with minimal application of mind. Therefore, the Garden Department does not feel the necessity of naming any trainers for the parks where such climbing nets are to be affixed.
The senior officer also stated that the climber net would occupy only about 10 per cent of garden area. So the citizens need not worry that the adventure parks would end up eating up green space in the gardens.
