girls had a fine day in the office as four of them — Nagpur’s Samiksha Singh, Ishika, Samriddhi and Shanaya won their respective bouts to move up in the Junior (U-17) National Boxing Championship in progress on the MLA Hostel premises on Tuesday. On the third day, several boxers advanced to the next round with strong wins and the competition is now moving towards the decisive stage. The coming days will see more tight fights in the quarter-finals. In her bout late in the day, Nagpur’s Samiksha beat Punjab’s Smiti 5-0 to enter quarter-finals. In a one-sided bout, Ishika outboxed Goa’s Lavanya 5:0 in their 46kg category. In a thrilling match of the same weight group, Rajasthan’s Darshika managed to pip Bihar’s Khushboo 3:2 with a split verdict. Samriddhi won her light weight (60kg) contest over Harshita of Uttarakhand while in light welter (63kg) group, Shanaya got the better of Manipur’s Preeti Devi.

RESULTS: Pinweight (46kg): Khanak (Delhi) defeated Nusrat Fatima (Ladakh) by RSC; Navpreet (Punjab) beat Anjali (Jharkhand) 5:0; Rakhi (Haryana) defeated Hillang (Arunachal Pradesh); Darshika (Rajasthan) won 3:2 over Khushboo (Bihar); Maya (Uttarakhand) 5:0 beat Deepali (SSCB). Light Fly (48kg): Alim (Arunachal Pradesh) defeated Maroni (Nagaland); Khushveer (Punjab) beat Neeti (Chandigarh) 5:0; Nishalini (SSCB) beat Siya (Assam); Khushi (Uttarakhand) beat Anjali (Bihar); Chhavi (Gujarat) beat Mansi (Delhi) 4:1; Priyanshi (Rajasthan) beat Diksha (Goa) 5:0.
