In a major infrastructure push, the Public Works Department of Chhattisgarh has sanctioned Rs 708.21 crore for the construction and upgradation of 15 four-lane roads spanning a total length of 90.5 km across multiple districts.
The projects, approved during the financial year 2025–26, aim to enhance road connectivity, ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time, and boost economic development across State. The initiative is also expected to strengthen key sectors such as agriculture, trade, education, and healthcare by improving transportation networks.
Deputy Chief Minister and Public Works Minister Arun Sao said that the expansion of four-lane roads will not only ensure safer and smoother commuting but also lay a strong foundation for the state’s economic
progress. He emphasised that large-scale investments in infrastructure will accelerate balanced development in both rural and urban areas.
In Durg district, Rs 3.41 crore has been sanctioned for a 0.5 km four-lane stretch from the Durg-Dhamdha-Bemetara underbridge to Agrasen Chowk. A sum of Rs 20.64 crore has been allocated for a 7 km road from Smriti Nagar petrol pump to IIT Jewra Sirsa. Additionally, Rs 28.58 crore has been approved for a 4.70 km stretch from Mini Mata Chowk to Maharaja Chowk–Thagra Dam, and Rs 23.97 crore for a 1.80 km road connecting Maharaja Chowk to Borsi Chowk.
In Raigarh district, Rs 41.49 crore has been sanctioned for a 2.50 km four-lane widening from Dhimrapur Chowk to Kotra Police Station Chowk.
Another Rs 55.29 crore will be used for widening the Raigarh–Kotra–Nandeli State Highway between Km 1 and Km 5. A sum of Rs 81.48 crore has been approved for the Raigarh–Loing–Mahapalli Major District Road, including electrification, while Rs 152.17 crore has been allocated for the construction of a 6 km Tamnar four-lane bypass. In Raipur district, Rs 17.09 crore has been sanctioned for upgrading a 2.8 km stretch on Abhanpur National Highway-30. A 3.50 km four-lane road from the new fair site to Lakshman Jhula in Rajim will be built at a cost of Rs 34.20 crore. In Surguja district, Rs 61.34 crore has been allocated for a 5 km four-lane widening project from Gandhi Chowk to the railway station in Ambikapur. In Bilaspur district, Rs 82.80 crore has been sanctioned for the 13.40 km Koni–Mopka four-lane bypass. In Kabirdham district, Rs 14.71 crore has been allocated for the widening and strengthening of a 21 km stretch on the Kota–Lormi–Pandariya route, while Rs 54.21 crore has been sanctioned for four-lane upgradation and divider construction on National Highway-30 from Km 50 to Km 57. In Jashpur district, Rs 36.85 crore will be used for upgrading and strengthening three road stretches totaling 7.30 km, including routes from Indira Chowk, Patthalgaon, towards Jashpur Road, Ambikapur Road, and Raigarh Road. Officials stated that once completed, these projects will significantly improve connectivity between key urban centers and rural regions, ensuring safer travel and facilitating economic growth across the state.
