In a successful breakthrough, a cyber fraud case involving the ‘Digital Arrest’ tactic, the Nagpur Cyber Police recovered the entire amount (Rs 13 lakh) and returned it to the complainants on Thursday. According to a police, an elderly couple was targeted by some unknown person who claimed that bank account had been opened in the couple’s name and was being used for terrorist activities. The whole false conversion took place through video call. The fraudsters also alleged that the couple received commission in that account through illegal transactions, which raised fear in the mind of the couple.

The accused also claimed that the couple is under ‘Digital Arrest’ and kept them continuously on camera, which increased psychological pressure among the elderly couple. However, the accused compelled the couple to pay Rs 13 lakh to resolve the case. The accused asked the couple to send the money in a so called ‘government account’ for verification, which would be refunded later. After this assurance, the couple transferred Rs 13 lakh to the accused. When the senior citizens realised being cheated, they registered a complaint in Cyber Cell. On the basis of the complaint cops registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and started investigation. Acting swiftly, the Cyber police tracked the financial trail and succeeded in recovering entire amount and return it to the elderly couple.

As per the information, the main accused is lodged in a jail in Delhi and the city police is putting efforts to take the custody of the accused for further investigation.
