A case of alleged domestic violence and illegal Triple Talaq came to fore under the limits of Tehsil Police Station where a man and his mother allegedly harassed, assaulted and divorced a woman after she gave birth to a baby girl. The incident has once again exposed the issue of gender discrimination and abuse faced by women within families.
The accused have been identified as Imran Rashid Sheikh and his mother Saeeda Begum, both residents of Itwari Maskasath area in Nagpur. Imran is engaged in transport business.
The case was registered on the complaint of
the victim, 32-year-old Rukhsar Sheikh.
According to police, Rukhsar married Imran on May 31, 2024. In August 2025, she gave birth to a daughter. Soon after the child birth, Imran and Saeeda Begum allegedly started mentally and physically harassing her as they were unhappy over the birth of a girl child.
Police said, on April 24, Imran allegedly assaulted Rukhsar, following which she approached Tehsil Police Station and lodged a complaint. However, despite police intervention, the harassment allegedly continued at home.
As per the FIR, Imran again assaulted Rukhsar and later pronounced “Talaq, Talaq, Talaq,” an instant divorce practice that has been declared illegal under Indian law. Rukhsar subsequently filed another complaint with the police.
