CITY footballer Vasu Kanojiya
helped Central Industrial
Security Force (CISF) clinch the
prestigious 74th BN Mullik All
India Police Football
Championship in Hyderahad,
recently.
City’s Vasu, who is posted as
Head Constable in New Delhi,
was part of the history making
CISF title winning team last
season as well at Agartala. It
was after Tripura after long 32
years that CISF have won the all
India title.
The tournament was highly
competitive, with participation
from all State Police teams and
CAPF forces like CRPF, BSF,
ITBP, SSB across India, making
it one of the toughest football
competitions at the national
level. It is for the first time that
CISF defended the title.
Vasu, who played for Rahul
Sankrutyayan Sports
Association from 2016 and also
captained the side, was instrumental in his side’s title win.
Playing as a midfielder, Vasu
created several goal scoring
opportunities and also assisted
in many goals. On the way to
lifting the trophy, CISF defeated
Sikkim Police, Maharashtra
Police, Jharkhand Police,
Andaman & Nicobar Police,
Odisha Police. In the summit
clash CISF defeated Goa Police
by a solitary goal.
A seasoned campaigner,
Vasu, who joined CISF in 2022,
rose from the club and college
level football. He represented
Nagpur University football
team in 2017, 2018 and captained it in 2019. Vasu also represented Maharashtra team in
Santosh Trophy in 2018 and
2021.
Another Nagpurian, Rashid
Khan, from Kamptee, coached
CISF women’s team which won
the bronze medal.
