15-year-old boy killed friend hurt in lightning strike in Bhilgaon area

A 15-year-old boy lost his life after being struck by lightning in the Bhilgaon area during unseasonal rain on Wednesday evening. His friend, who was standing nearby, was injured in the incident. The accident took place around 5.45 pm on Hastinapur Road under the jurisdiction of the Yashodhara Nagar Police Station. According to police officials, lightning struck a neem tree located in the middle of the road at the very moment two boys had taken shelter beneath it to escape the rain and strong winds.
 
The deceased has been identified as Ujjwal Sunil Bhelave (15), a resident of Tiwari Nagar in Bhilgaon. He was a Class 10 student. The lightning strike proved fatal and he died on the spot before help could arrive. His friend, Devansh Kapurchand Pardhi (14), a resident of Hastinapur, Bhilgaon, sustained injuries in the incident. Devansh, who studies in Class 9, was rushed to a nearby private hospital for treatment. His condition was not known till late Wednesday night. Soon after receiving information about the incident, officers and personnel from Yashodhara Nagar Police Station reached the spot and began an investigation.
 
During the inspection, police confirmed that, the lightning had directly struck the neem tree under which the two boys were standing. Officials said, the preliminary inquiry did not reveal anything suspicious, and the incident appears to be a tragic accident caused by the sudden weather conditions. Ujjwal’s body was later sent to the Government Hospital in Kamptee for post-mortem examination. Police have registered a case of accidental death and further investigation is underway.
