NEARLY 87 players from 16 colleges participated in the Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) organised Inter-Collegiate Ashtedu Akhada held in the honour of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Subhedar Hall, Ravi Nagar, recently.
The programme was held under the guidance of Vice-Chancellor Dr Manali Kshirsagar.
Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Education, Dr Sambhaji Bhosale, presided over the function.
Senate member Sunil Fudke inaugurated the competition. Director of Nagpur Shikshak Sahakari Bank Dr Sunil Patil, Rajesh Talmale and Jagdish Deshmukh were also present.
Competitions were conducted in traditional disciplines such as Dandpatta, Dhal, Talwar, Kathi and Bhovara, showcasing the rich martial heritage of the region.
In his presidential address, Dr Bhosale emphasised the need to preserve the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj through these traditional games.
He appealed to students to participate in large numbers in such events to keep the cultural and physical traditions alive.
Kiran Yadav conducted the proceedings. The event received good response from participants and highlighted the university’s commitment to promoting indigenous sports and physical fitness among the youth.
