Jabalpurians should prepare for a harsh stretch of hot weather as the district heads into the May 16 to 20 period. Daytime temperature is forecast to hover between 43 and 44 degrees Celsius, while nights too will also be hotter, with mercury staying between 28 and 30 degrees. Scorching hot winds are also expected to blow across the district during this period. Isolated spells of dust storms accompanied by light rain cannot be ruled out at a few places.
Looking further ahead, the long range forecast for eastern Madhya Pradesh indicates that both day and night temperatures will continue rising over the next two weeks. A possibility of light rain has been indicated between May 21 and 28. On Friday, denizens experienced sweltering heat grip the city through the day, with maximum temperature recorded at 41.8°C and minimum at 28.2°C.
However, by evening, thick dark clouds moved in over the city, raising hopes of some relief.
Temperature has been climbing steadily after a brief respite brought by winds and scattered showers earlier this week. Spokesman of Weather Department has cautioned that the mercury could breach the 44°C mark in the days ahead, with peak heat likely between May 16 and 20.
Weather Department has urged citizens to exercise caution during heat wave. People should avoid stepping out between 12
noon and 4 pm when the sun is most intense. Those who must venture out are advised to carry water bottles, wear light coloured loose cotton clothing and cover their heads with an umbrella, cap or scarf. Staying well hydrated through the day is essential. Special care must be taken for the elderly, young children and those who work outdoors, as they are most vulnerable during such extreme weather conditions.
