Friday namaz in the State capital concluded with complete peace and harmony despite recent tensions in the Old City. A heavy deployment of police personnel, continuous patrolling, and sincere appeals for peace from community leaders and local representatives ensured that no untoward incidents occurred. Despite earlier calls for a large-scale protest at Iqbal Maidan, the situation remained normal throughout the day. Authorities confirmed that no disruptions or disputes were reported from any part of the city, and citizens returned home peacefully after the conclusion of the prayers. Administration remains vigilant following Govindpura incident: The administrative machinery remained on high alert, monitoring social media threats of protests and potential concerns regarding the Bhojshala verdict. The security environment had become highly sensitive following an incident in Govindpura on May 10, which previously led to demonstrations outside the Police Commissioner’s office and tension in several pockets of the Old City. Maintaining stability in this context was a significant challenge for the administration, which was handled with proactive measures and strategic deployment. Protest call withdrawn following swift police action: The previously announced protest for Friday was officially cancelled.

Syed Mushtaq Ali Nadvi, along with legislators Arif Masood and Atif Aqeel, made earnest appeals to citizens to prioritise peace and abstain from participating in any demonstrations. Additionally, Mohsin Ali Khan released a video message stating that since the administration had acted swiftly to arrest the accused individuals, there was no longer a need for a public protest. This intervention played a key role in de-escalating the situation before the afternoon prayers. To ensure public safety, an impenetrable security cover was established at Iqbal Maidan, Peer Gate, Imami Gate, and Royal Market. Barricades were placed at strategic locations, and traffic was diverted to manage the flow of people. Surveillance was enhanced through the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) to monitor Iqbal Maidan and adjacent residential blocks. Plain-clothes security personnel were also embedded in various areas to keep a close watch on suspicious elements. Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar confirmed that the situation across the entire city remained fully under control.

Digital platforms under scanner: The administration identified social media as a primary factor in escalating the Govindpura issue, leading to the strict monitoring of all online platforms. Authorities are taking punitive action against individuals found spreading rumours or inflammatory content. Section 144 remains in effect in parts of the Old City to prevent unauthorised gatherings. As a precautionary measure, shops and commercial establishments around Iqbal Maidan remained closed on Friday, and attendance at major mosques was lower than usual as patrolling continued throughout the day.
