Police have achieved a major breakthrough in the high-profile road accident case involving the death of BJP leader Rahul Dwivedi under the jurisdiction of Beohari police station in Shahdol district. During the investigation, CCTV footage from toll plazas helped police identify a suspicious Scorpio vehicle allegedly involved in the incident.
Based on the footage, police traced the white Scorpio (CG-04LF-3043) to Dhamtari district in Chhattisgarh. Officials found the front portion of the vehicle damaged, strengthening suspicions regarding its involvement in the accident. A case has now been registered against the vehicle owner and further investigation is underway.
The incident occurred on the morning of May 10, when bodies of BJP leader Rahul Dwivedi and Atul Tiwari were found lying
near a roadside.
Both were returning home on a motorcycle after attending a wedding ceremony. It was initially suspected that an unidentified speeding vehicle had hit them and fled from the spot.
Following the incident, angry family members and villagers blocked Rewa-Shahdol State Highway at Tihki village, alleging foul play and demanding strict action. Police later reached the spot and managed to pacify the protesters after considerable effort. A second post-mortem was also conducted at Shahdol Medical College. According to Beohari police, the Scorpio owner said during questioning that he was returning to Chhattisgarh with his family from Prayagraj when the motorcycle riders suddenly came in front of the vehicle near Tihki village, resulting in the accident.
