Shuttlers Gawande, Durgpurohit, Sahasrabuddhe clinch twin titles

TANMAY Gawande, Aayush Durgpurohit and Sneha Sahasrabuddhe ran away with twin tittles as it was curtains on the Yonex-Sunrise Nagpur District Amateur Badminton Tournament at NMC Hall behind Sai Mandir. Gawande, who finished runners-up in the GH Raisoni memorial amateur meet a week back, claimed the men’s singles and men’s doubles titles in the Zanzad memorial tournament, the other day. Similarly, Durgpurohit claimed the men’s doubles and mixed doubles titles while Sahasrabuddhe won the women’s doubles and mixed doubles finals. In the men’s singles final, Gawande got the better of Aryan Awale in straight sets to claim the crown. He had to fight in the first set taking it 23-21 and then wrapped up the summit clash taking the second game 21-14. In the men’s doubles event, Gawande paired with Aayush Durgpurohit to emerge champion.
 
The duo defeated the pair of Akshat Paturkar and Ojas Jainabadkar 21-11, 21-8 to finish on a high. The women’s singles title went to Tinku Ninave who defeated Srushti Kane 21-16, 21-11 to emerge champion. In the women’s doubles, Sneha Sahasrabuddhe and Srushti Kane defeated Advaiya Sathe and Sharvari Gawande 21-10, 21-9 to claim top spot. In the mixed doubles event, Durgpurohit and Sahasrabuddhe won the title as their opponents Ameya Joshi and Srushti Kane conceded the game midway. When the match was halted the scores were level at 17-21, 21-12 and Durgpurohit and Sahasrabuddhe were leading the decider 4-3. Prizes were distributed by Shivani Dani, NMC, Standing Committee Chairperson. Varsha Chaudhary, Corporator, Vivekanand Nagar; Satish Dabade, Kunal Zanzad, Sangita Chauhan, Madhavi Kashikar Hedaoo, Secretary, Coaching, NDBA; Neha Gosavi, EC Member, NDBA, Pramod Thakre, Mukesh Pawar, Nitin Dongre, Yatharth Meshram, Tournament Referee, were also present.
