In a dramatic late-night rescue operation, the swift response of Beltarodi Police saved the life of a 25-year-old woman after her husband, a notorious criminal, allegedly attempted to kill her inside their locked flat at Gotalpanjari village on Wednesday.
The incident took place after midnight on May 21, when a Beltarodi Police's night patrolling team was alerted by the accused’s father, who frantically informed officers that his son was attempting to kill his wife with a knife inside their residence at Green City-4 in Gotalpanjari.
Acting without delay, Mukund Kawade, Senior Police Inspector, directed Narayan Ghodke, Police Sub-Inspector, and Constable Ritesh Gotmare to rush to the spot. Upon arrival, the officers found the flat locked from inside, while distress sounds emerged from within.
Sensing imminent danger to the victim’s life, the police forcibly entered the residence.
Inside, they found the accused Rishikesh Surendra Wankhede, aged 22 years, allegedly attacking his wife Ashlesha Rishikesh Wankhede with a sharp weapon.
Without a moment’s delay, Constable Gotmare broke through the door and overpowered the accused, snatching away the blood-stained knife before taking him into custody on the spot. Officers then launched a rapid emergency response to shift the critically injured woman to AIIMS Hospital. Under the supervision of PI Kawade, a separate police team co-ordinated emergency medical assistance and transported the victim over a distance of approximately 9.3 kilometres in just 15 minutes. Doctors at the hospital immediately began treatment, which proved crucial in saving her life.
The condition of woman is reported to be stable.
Police registered a case under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act. Police have initiated forensic evidence collection, seizure of blood samples, spot panchnama and witness statements. Remarkably, no murder case has been registered within the Beltarodi Police limits during 2025 and 2026 so far.
Commending the courage and efficiency displayed during the operation, the Commissioner of Police Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal felicitated the concerned officers and personnel with commendation certificates.
