THE duo of Jaiprakash Kolhe and Mohit Gupta dominated first day of the Nagpur District Athletics Association’s District Senior Group Athletics Championship on synthetic track of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University on Thursday.
Kolhe of Nav-Maharashtra Krida Mandal emerged victorious in the men’s 10,000m race clocking 33 minutes 13.79 seconds. Lucky Samarthane of Track Star Athletics Club won the silver with a time of 35 minutes 37.32 seconds while Abhay Maski of Mavale Krida Mandal won bronze. He took 38 minutes 17.79 seconds to complete the
competition.
In the men’s shot put event, Gupta of BKCP Club, Kamptee won gold medal with a throw of 10.01m. Om Ravindra of Golden Star Club, Parsheoni won silver with a throw of 7.65 metres and the bronze medal went to Harsh Nikhar of the local SPC College with a throw of 7.32m.
In the women’s shot put event, state medallist and national athlete Ayesha Naseem of BKCP Club won gold medal with a throw of 9.52m. Her team-mate Rajshree Mankar won silver with a throw of 6.69m.
The winning players were felicitated by Sports Organiser Harish Choubey, Assistant Professor (Sports Department), Reena Choubey of Raisoni Educational Group and Dr Aditya Vaidya.
Earlier, the competition was inaugurated by Pramod, former chairman of the sports committee of Nagpur Municipal Corporation. Dhanashree Lekurwale, Umesh Naidu, Ravindra Tong, Dr Vibekanand Singh, Jitendra Ghordadekar, Ramchandra Wani were prominently present.
Dr Sharad Suryawanshi, Secretary, Nagpur District Athletics Association, made introductory remarks. Archana Kottewar moderated the programme while Ganesh Wani proposed a vote of thanks.
