Sub-standard reality of city’s expansion

The exceptionally tall buildings mentioned in “Footloose in Nagpur” in CityLine dated May 21 are result of the ill-planned layouts cropping up around Nagpur, capable of putting tier three town of a poor nation to shame. Layouts where, despite good transport connectivity and decent townships with all amenities, people are reluctant to shift due to its sub-standard civic infra, roads witnessing traffic jams due to encroachments and underpasses capable of giving one a watery grave if not ventured through cautiously.

So, any person with decent buying power chooses to stay in the part of Nagpur, masterplan of which though implemented half a century back, is still bearing the burden of ever increasing load of people and vehicles. Bylanes and roads, specially in West Nagpur, are choked with parked vehicles, some belonging to residents and others belonging to restaurant customers carelessly parked by some random person in the name of so called valet parking. We, as ,citizens despite facing civic issues on daily basis have conditioned ourselves that these daily discomforts do not bother or provoke us anymore and the irony being that people whom we choose to represent ourselves, be our voice, protect our rights are infact the perpetrators of these very discomforts and problems. Loosefooter, yes you are right! We really need Erin Brockovich.
