In a heartrending incident, a couple killed their two minor children aged 11 and 13 years before committing suicide in their home situated at Arya Nagar in Durg. While bodies of both the husband and wife were found hanging from the ceiling in separate rooms, both the children were found lying dead on the bed. It is suspected that the couple gave poisonous substance to the children and also tried strangulating them with wire as marks were found on necks of both the children. Mohan Nagar Police have also recovered a suicide note written by the woman in which she has blamed her husband for the extreme step taken by her while also asking for forgiveness from her parents as she had married him without their permission. The police however couldn’t confirm how the children were murdered while saying that the truth will be ascertained after the post-mortem examination. Sources informed that Govind Sahu (45) lived with his wife Chanchal (40) and two children Drishna (13) and Yashant (11) at Arya Nagar.

 

The brother and family members of deceased man lived in other rooms of the house. At about 9 am, Govind’s mother peeped from the door after they failed to wake up and noticed the bodies. As she raised alarm, the neighbours and other family members too rushed to the room and a police team also reached after sometime. It is reported that a week ago, Govind along with wife and children had gone to Tirupati Balaji and all of them except the girl had got their heads shaved. Meanwhile, the other family members returned from religious tour to Puri on Thursday and all of them had taken dinner together in the night. Neighbours also said that everything seemed normal and they had seen the children enjoying ice cream on Thursday evening. The deceased man worked in a share trading firm in Supela,

 

Bhilai and as per allegations made by the woman in the suicide note, she was upset with him over his alleged illicit relationships with other women, poor finances and regular drinking habits. Police suspect that the children were given poisonous substances initially while after ensuring that they have died, the couple ended their lives by hanging themselves. Unconfirmed reports claimed that the deceased couple not wished that their children live in poverty after their death due to which they murdered them. Additional Superintendent of Police (Urban) Sukhnandan Rathore confirmed that the couple died by suicide and said that the exact cause behind the death of children will be known after the post-mortem examination which will be conducted on Saturday after the woman’s family reaches Durg. He refused to comment on being asked that whether the husband and wife were not in good terms with each other while saying the suicide note will be sent to handwriting expert.
