Even before the beginning of Nautapa from May 25, the city is already experiencing intense heat wave conditions. On Saturday, the average maximum temperature in Jabalpur was recorded around 44 degree Celsius. However, in many parts of the city, people felt the temperature was crossing 45 degree Celsius due to strong hot winds and extreme heat. The scorching sun and dry weather made streets and markets look almost deserted during the afternoon. Roads remained heated like a furnace and hot winds continued throughout the day, making outdoor movement difficult. People covered their faces and heads while stepping out to protect themselves from the heat.

According to the local weather department, the mercury has remained close to 43 to 44 degree Celsius for the last several days. Weather experts said the temperature may rise further and could create new records in the coming days. Earlier, the city had recorded 44.9 degree Celsius on May 21. Spokesman, weather department said humidity levels have dropped sharply and dry winds are increasing the effect of heat wave conditions. Doctors have advised people to avoid going out unnecessarily during afternoon hours and to drink sufficient water to prevent dehydration. Medical experts said symptoms like dizziness, weakness, vomiting, headache and excessive sweating should not be ignored during such weather conditions. Citizens have been advised to remain alert as Nautapa is expected to increase the intensity of heat in the region further.
