Serious deficiencies related to hygiene, child welfare and living conditions surfaced during a surprise inspection conducted by the Chhattisgarh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CGSCPCR) at two madrasas and orphanage facilities in Raipur.
The inspection, led by CGSCPCR Chairperson Dr Varnika Sharma, covered Madrasa Islahul Muslimeen and Darul Yatama located in Baijnathpara area. During the visit, the Commission observed that children residing in the institutions were following excessively long and imbalanced daily routines. Inspection teams also found unhygienic conditions inside the premises, including poor sanitation in kitchen areas, inadequate access to clean drinking water and irregularities in food arrangements.
The Commission expressed concern over conditions affecting the physical and mental well-being of children residing in the institutions. Officials further observed that children were allegedly being engaged in cleaning and other routine maintenance work within the premises.
Taking serious note of the issue, Dr Varnika Sharma stated that involving children in such activities was against child rights and welfare norms. The Commission directed the management of the institutions to immediately ensure that no child was made to perform labour-related work and instructed authorities to strictly comply with all prescribed child protection standards and legal provisions. Concern was also raised over the absence of adequate sports and recreational facilities for children. The Commission emphasised the need for balanced development and directed the institutions to undertake immediate corrective measures regarding deficiencies noticed during inspection. Dr Varnika Sharma said the Commission remained committed to safeguarding the rights and welfare of children and warned that negligence affecting their health, dignity and development would not be tolerated. Authorities and madrasa managements have been directed to submit a detailed compliance and corrective action report within the stipulated period.
