Members of the Jain community took out a grand silent rally on Monday to protest against the death of two Jain sadhvis in a road accident in Rewa. The rally was organised jointly by the Digambar Jain Panchayat Sabha, Jain Navyuvak Sabha and Shwetambar Jain Samaj. It started at Kamania Gate, passed through Ganjipura and concluded at Civic Centre.
At the conclusion of the rally, a memorandum was submitted to Additional District Magistrate Rishabh Jain, addressed to the Chief Minister, Prime Minister and Home Minister. The memorandum referred to the incident in which two Jain sadhvis were struck and killed by a car in Rewa.
The community demanded a high-level, impartial and transparent inquiry into the incident. It also demanded an SIT probe and called for all CCTV footage and digital evidence related to the incident to be preserved.
Strict action against the guilty was also demanded.
Community people, in the memorandum, further called for police coordination on routes used by saints for padyatra. They demanded speed control on highways, security arrangements on sensitive routes and clear national level guidelines for the protection of religious pedestrians.
The Jain community also demanded that crimes against saints and monks be declared a specially sensitive category of offence. It called for a National Saint Protection Policy with a dedicated safety SOP for monks travelling on foot. The
community stressed that saints do not carry weapons, do not use vehicles and live a completely non violent life, making them particularly vulnerable.
Before the silent rally, Muni Nishkamp Sagar Ji and Muni Nishkam Sagar Ji Maharaj addressed the gathering at Kamania Gate. A large number of members of the Jain community participated in the rally.
