In a step towards modernising policing and improving crowd management, the Nagpur City Police have added five Segways (self-balancing scooters) to their patrolling fleet. The vehicles will be used in some of the city's busiest lakefront and market areas to help police officers for moving quickly through crowded locations and maintain a stronger public presence. According to officials, the five Segways will be deployed at key public locations, including Sonegaon Lake, Ambazari-Futala Lake, Sitabuldi Market, Sakkardara-Tajbagh and the Tehsil-Itwari Market area. Police personnel selected for the assignment have already undergone specialised training to operate the vehicles safely and effectively. Officials said the Segways will enable faster movement through congested areas, allowing officers to respond more efficiently to incidents and public concerns.

The vehicles will also be equipped for public awareness announcements during patrols. Police hope this will help regulate crowds at popular destinations, particularly during weekends and holidays when footfall is high. Officials believe the initiative will strengthen law and order management and aid in preventing offences such as thefts, burglaries and crimes against women. The addition of Segways is also expected to improve police visibility and accessibility in public spaces. The Segways have been provided by MIHAN India Limited, Nagpur, under an initiative undertaken with the guidance of Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal, Municipal Commissioner Dr Vipin Itankar, Joint CP Naveenchandra Reddy, and Addl CP (North) Rajendra Dabade. The project was coordinated through the efforts of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone I) Rushikesh Singareddy.
