The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially taken charge of the high-profile death case of model-turned-actress Twisha Sharma.
A specialised team from the agency arrived in Bhopal to expedite the investigation. After completing the formal procedural handover from the local police, the team, accompanied by female personnel, conducted a direct visit to the residence of the accused former district judge, Giribala Singh.
During this operation, investigators seized crucial evidence and digital forensic materials, including CCTV footage, from the incident site in Katara Hills.
Officials conducted a rigorous on-site interrogation of
Giribala Singh regarding the circumstances surrounding the death.
Following the detailed search at the residence of Giribala Singh, the CBI team proceeded to the Sena Kurukshetra Mess in the Old City, where the parents and family members of Twisha Sharma are currently staying.
Investigators met with the grieving family to record their detailed statements.
The family members reiterated their allegations, claiming that the in-laws had subjected Twisha to severe physical and mental harassment over dowry demands since the time of her marriage.
The CBI has re-registered the first information report (FIR) previously filed by Bhopal police at the Katara Hills Police Station under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. This action follows explicit directives from a Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi, which emphasised the necessity of ensuring an impartial investigation, given the judicial background of the accused party.
Samarth Singh, the husband of Twisha and a lawyer by profession, was arrested in Jabalpur after evading authorities for approximately ten days following the incident. A local court in Bhopal has granted the police a seven-day remand for Samarth Singh.
The CBI is now preparing to conduct intensive custodial interrogation to piece together the sequence of events.
Prior to the CBI intervention, the local Special Investigation Team (SIT) had conducted a scene reconstruction with Samarth Singh to verify the scientific evidence and timelines related to the case.
