Three train passengers die during journey

Nagpur is witnessing a disturbing rise in deaths as the intense heatwave continues to grip the city and the wider Vidarbha region. In the last 24 hours alone, at least 10 people have died in separate incidents reported from different parts of the city and at the railway station. While the exact causes of death are yet to be officially confirmed, police suspect that heatstroke and prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures may have contributed to several of the cases. Most of the victims were found unconscious in open areas, near flyovers, markets and Railway premises before being rushed to hospitals, where doctors declared them dead. Police across the city have registered accidental death cases and investigations are currently underway.

Under Lakadganj Police Station limits, an unidentified man believed to be around 65 years old was found unconscious near a pillar below the flyover outside Krishna Bhojanalaya around 1.15 am on Tuesday. He was taken to Mayo Hospital but could not survive. His identity is still unknown. In another incident, a man aged around 50 was found unconscious at Kalamna Fruit Market. He too was declared dead at Mayo Hospital. Three more unidentified men were found unconscious at separate locations under Sakkardara Police Station. One was discovered beneath the Sakkardara Chowk flyover, another near the wall of the Motha Tajbagh Langar Khana and the third behind the Motha Tajbagh Shopping Complex. All three were taken to GMCH where doctors declared them dead.

The severe weather conditions also appeared to affect passengers at Nagpur Railway Station. Railway Police recorded five deaths in separate incidents on Wednesday, including three passengers travelling on different trains. One body was found inside the guard’s coach of Train No. 22692, while another elderly man was discovered near the waiting hall on Platform No. 1. Police said illness combined with extreme heat may have worsened the condition of the deceased passengers.
